The Nigerian Economic Society Elects New Governing Council Members During Its 64th Annual Conference, 2023


The Nigerian Economic Society (NES) is pleased to announce the formation of a new Governing Council during its Annual General Meeting (AGM) that took place on October 12, 2023 at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Conference Centre in Abuja.

The new Council comes on the heels of the NES's highly successful National Conference, held under the theme "Building Resilience for Transformational Recovery." The Conference, featuring influential economists, policymakers, and thought leaders, provided a platform for discussing innovative strategies for fostering resilience and transformational recovery in Nigeria's economic landscape. His Excellency, Vice President Kashim Shettima (GCON), represented by Dr. Tope Fasua, the Special Adviser on Economic Affairs in the office of the Vice President, shared insights on government’s innovative efforts at tackling pressing emerging issues within the Nigerian economy.

A total of sixteen (16) distinguished individuals within the NES membership were elected into the Society’s Executive Governing Council for the 2023-2025 tenure, and they include:

The Society extends its gratitude to members who participated in the Conference and AGM, and warmly congratulates the newly elected Council Members. The reconstituted Council, as always, remains poised to playing pivotal role in proffering useful advisory services, as part of an enlarged strategy to addressing national economic challenges, fostering resilience, and facilitate transformational recovery in Nigeria.

Established in 1957, the NES has played a significant role in shaping economic discourse and policy in the country; contributing to the nation's economic development and growth.
